12 Day Convention Photo Recap: Day 1

Just for fun - like spraying pepper spray in a persons face, we thought we’d bring you 3 of our favourite photos (out of thousands) per day from the convention weeks - a recap of the 12 days we spent in the belly of the beast...

Photo 1: Laura Bush

The First Lady made a rumoured appearance on Day 1 of the convention as Hurrican Gustav was scheduled to make landfall. She appeared onstage to introduce recorded statements by Gulf state Governors Rick Perry (TX), Haley Barbour (GA), and Charlie Crist (FLA) - but the real relief — as I overheard it — was from party faithful who knew that this Hurricane could be seen as a reprieve for the party so that George W Bush and Dick Cheney. The relief was tangible.

To be fair, the party loves Barbara Bush. And rightly so. If it wasn’t for her, they might even have a president who cannot read.

See above caption. Again, it’s hard not to have more respect for these women than for their husbands. It’s not meant to sound patronizing whatsover — it’s quite sincere, knowing the BS they have to endure. Cindy McCain was also there to assist in the relief effort and the evening’s theme of ‘Service’. Now if only Cindy would shop at a thrift store and donate the difference of her $300,000 dress to charity relief, it might not seem so hollow.

FOX News = Reporting of the Beast?

This was just too good to pass up. It made me smile after the surreal and bizzare day I had spent eavesdropping on conversations and taking notes. Something just seemed natural about seeing ‘666′ on the foreheads - especially on Bill O’Reilly, Hannity, and Greta van Susteren. It’s not enough that the airbrushed FOX News banners already made them seem like some wierd mutant race. This just seemed to nromalize them.
